So some life happened.
Since the last time I posted an udpate there's been quite a lot going on in my life. For the good and the bad, I can say my life has not been boring.
First off, as you can assume from my picture, my beautiful little girl Mabel Rose has entered the world. After 23.5 hours of labor, I welcomed her on January 21 at 8:30 in the morning. It was the best/worst day of my life, and as cliched as it is, I'd relive it over and over if it meant I got to hold my baby when it was through.
Having a newborn in the house has been quite the change, though I have to admit not nearly as havoc as I feared. The dogs have taken to her well, especially Freki (our tiny guy who's not a year old yet). I foresee the two of them becoming the best of friends once Mabel can walk. I already know the two of them are going to cause a lot of cute trouble.
Before Mabel's arrival, though, a giant curveball was thrown my household's way. Toward the end of August, my fiance was suffering from unexplained vertigo, but it was written off as an inner ear infection. In October, he collapsed at work, and that led to two months of tests and medication that didn't help. To top it off, the sight in his right eye started to go at the end of November.
An MRI revealed a strange spot on his head, and a neurosurgeon told my fiance that there was a large mass on his optic nerve that was causing his blindness. The next day--three days before Christmas--my fiance underwent major surgery.
It went beautifully, and they were able to remove the mass. Unfortunately, his healing is a little all over the place, but he is better than where he was back in December. He's here and while he can't do as much of the childcare as he'd like, we're doing well with our precious daughter.
I'd love it if the next few months can be quiet, but I learned a long time ago not to count on it.
